Ryan Meeking's making his mark

Local talent is making his mark in the music world. Kyabram's Ryan Meeking and The Few are in this month's Rolling Stone magazine. The story titled ``Ryan Meeking Will Inherit the Earth'' talks with Ryan about music writing and how he travelled solo to the United Kingdom for a month to kick-start his song-writing, following the release of the band's independent album Broken Cars & Empty Pockets. The music he composed is included in Night Owls and the future debut album.

It is nice to see the towns of Kyabram and Shepparton mentioned in the article _ Kyabram as Ryan's home-town and Shepparton as where he spent time developing his music by playing in bands.

Ryan will be one not to miss during the coming SheppARTon Festival. The upcoming star and his band will appear at a special concert with Goulburn Valley Concert Orchestra, led by Wendy Oakes.

Essendon players to provide skills and thrills

Players from Essendon Football Club arrived in Shepparton yesterday, bringing crowds to Deakin Reserve to watch an intra-club match.

Bombers stars including Jobe Watson, Mark McVeigh, Angus Monfries and Brent Stanton were on show at the match in Shepparton, which is part of the club's 2010 Community Camp.

Today, Thursday, February 4, the club will host a football clinic.

The Auskick super clinic and autograph session will be hosted by Rumbalara Football Club in Mercury Dve from 4 pm until 5.30 pm.

Supporters aged five to 12 years who would like to participate can do so by registering at the following website: http://www.essendonfc.com.au/supporters/sheppclinic2010.asp

Numbers are strictly limited.

While in town, the players will also visit hospitals, community organisations, aged care facilities and schools, and attend a dinner function hosted by Shepparton Football Club.

Greater Shepparton Mayor Geoff Dobson said it was exciting for the area to host the AFL club.

``The visit will give people the chance to see some of their AFL heroes in action,'' Geoff said.

``Supporters will be able to meet and greet the players at a range of functions over the two days, and the young kids will be able to take part in a clinic with them on Thursday afternoon.

``I know we have many Bombers fans in the area.''
