An exhibition celebrating Goulburn Valley Quilters' 25th anniversary is set to showcase a spectacular display of quilts and wall hangings from Friday until Sunday.

Goulburn Valley Quilters exhibition committee member Margaret Bryant said the exhibition this year was a particularly important one as it demonstrated just how far the club had progressed in skills over the past 25 years.

More than 100 quilts will be on display including 12 quilts commemorating the club's silver anniversary, novelty fabric postcards, past club challenges and the results of two workshops.

A special feature at the exhibition will be Victorian Quilters' 2010 Singer Challenge quilts.

One of 10 women who initially formed the group in 1985, Margaret said Goulburn Valley Quilters had evolved into a group with more community involvement.

``We have responded to the needs of different organisations with targeted fundraising through raffling quilts,'' she said.

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to purchase tickets in the raffle for a beautiful applique quilt, to be drawn on Sunday at 3.45 pm.

Funds raised through the raffle will go towards Goulburn Valley Hospice Care Service.

``Our raffle quilt is a splendid piece of work created by women who enjoy doing handwork, and although its creation was a learning experience for us all, we achieved a spectacular quilt celebrating our 25 years of learning skills among friends,'' Margaret said.

As a result of its last raffle in 2008, Goulburn Valley Quilters donated a cheque for $2000 to Goulburn Valley Base Hospital's Children's Ward.

Margaret said the exhibition gave members the opportunity to show off their work in the best possible way.

A highlight of the exhibition will be a series of quilts made for the club's 25th anniversary challenge, each featuring at least 25 different fabrics and the use of silver either in the fabric or thread.

Tickets are available for the exhibition opening on Thursday at 7.30 pm and the exhibition will be open from 10 am to 9 pm on Friday and Saturday, and 11 am to 4 pm on Sunday at Shepparton RSL Club's function room, 88 Wyndham St, Shepparton.
