This autumn, Greater Shepparton residents are invited to indulge in pear fare and celebrate the versatility of the classic fruit at the second annual Pear Fest on Easter Saturday, April 3, at Shepparton Showgrounds' McIntosh Centre.

To be hosted by Ready Steady Cook celebrity chef Janelle Bloom for the second time, the festival will showcase the rich traditions of Australian pears while offering consumers, local businesses and growers the chance to celebrate the pear season, sample the year's harvest, and learn more about this family favourite of the fruitbowl.

Jam-packed with things to see and do, the free event will feature a pear bake-off, cooking demonstrations, Goulburn Valley orchard tours, competitions, inventive pear displays, market stalls, produce and product tastings, an art exhibition and kids' activities.

Organised by Fruit Growers Victoria with assistance from Goulburn Valley Women in Horticulture, Pear Fest allows the community to celebrate the fruit in the heartland of pear-growing country.

For more details about Pear Fest 2010, visit the website at www.pearfest.com.au or phone Fruit Growers Victoria Ltd on 5825 3700.

Entry forms for the pear bake-off, art exhibition and other competitions can be downloaded from the website.
