Girls gathered and gossiped

SNWeekly

Take care of yourself was the key message for women who attended the Girls, Gather and Gossip Day, hosted by Nathalia, Numurkah and Cobram Community Health, in partnership with Moira Shire Council.

Shadow minister for the Status of Women Dr Sharman Stone opened the event, which focused on women's health and the importance of staying fit for life, with reminders for women to have regular health checks.

``Gathering together to chat and listen was one of the most important things women in small communities could do to cope with the stresses of raising a family, making ends meet and keeping relationships in good order,'' Dr Stone said.

Janet Michelmore from Jean Hailes Foundation encouraged all women to have a medical check-up each year and to start taking small but active steps to improve their health.

Susie Reid from Women's Health Goulburn North East reminded women that simple things such as taking a walk with friends and checking up when a friend seemed to have retreated, were so important.

``International Women's Day on March 8, celebrating women's achievements worldwide, is a reminder of how good life can be, despite issues and problems,'' Dr Stone said.
